Do I need to provide a Tax Form to get paid?

Yes. We are not able to pay you unless you provide us fully and accurately filled out and signed tax form. This is a one-time requirement.

You must provide us with either a:

W9
(if you pay taxes in the U.S.) For individuals, the Tax ID is your US issued social security number. For business entities, the Tax ID is the US assigned business federal ID number.  Please remember to use the name that you pay taxes under.

Download it here

Send back the completed W9 to: taxforms@audiam.com.

W8- BEN
(if you pay taxes outside if the U.S.)

Note that the amount of taxes required to be withheld can vary by country due to international tax treaties.

If you do not fill out the form completely or accurately, and you are paid, the maximum amount of 30% of your payment will be withheld as required by US tax laws.

However, if you fill the W8-BEN in accurately and completely the tax amount withheld may significantly decrease and you will get paid more money.

Download it here

Send back the completed W8-BEN to: taxforms@audiam.com.

If I have been paid in the past do I need to provide a Tax Form?

Yes. If you have been paid in the past no future payments will be made until we receive the required tax form.

If you have been paid in the past, you will not receive future payments unless we have this form on file.

Is there a minimum I need to earn before I get paid?

Yes. You are eligible to be paid out when your unpaid earnings reach a minimum of U.S. $5.

How much money will I make?

That depends on a few factors, including the type of ad (such as a text ad or a commercial), how popular the video is and what company sold the ad (such as Google's ad sales division or YouTube's ad sales division). You'll be able to log into your own YouTube account and see the information and know exactly how much you are making off of each view.

YouTube has written up a lot of information about their different types of ads. You can read more about them here.

What percentage does Audiam take?

If you have an Audiam account and have provided Audiam the information for your music and YouTube channel, along with all payment information, you get you 100% of your earnings. Audiam takes nothing. Zero. 0%.

See our main FAQ for more information.

For other people's videos using your music, Audiam pays you 75% of the money it collects from YouTube.

Where does the money come from?

Advertising. Advertisers pay YouTube for ads on videos. YouTube takes a percentage of this ad money and pays out the rest. When YouTube gets paid, so do you.

When does an ad generate revenue?

An ad on a video generates revenue if the text or banner is clicked on or if the whole commercial, or a minimum of 30 seconds of the commercial, is watched.

Do I make money every time a YouTube video with my music in it is watched?

No. You make money if:

  • There's a text or banner ad on the YouTube video with your music in it, and the watcher clicks on the text or banner.
  • There is a commercial on the video and the viewer watches at lest 30 seconds or the entire commercial

The bottom line is, you get paid when YouTube gets paid.

Does Audiam get me paid from views on my own videos on YouTube?

Yes. As long as you have an Audiam account and have provided Audiam the information for your music and YouTube channel, and you've given us all the payment information we need. For views of your own videos, you get 100% of the money generated. Get more information here.

What if I never gave you my YouTube channel name?

It's vital you get us the name of your YouTube channel. If a payment cycle has come and gone and you haven't told us the name of your channel, we'll have automatically taken our 25% administration fee.

Please reach out to us at support@audiam.com as soon as you can.

Why do I need a Security Code to access my money and how is it different from my Audiam.com password?

We want to make sure your money and information is as safe as possible, so we created a secure system that requires a Security Code you create to access.

IMPORTANT: Never give anyone your Audiam.com password or your Security Code if you don't want them to have access to your money and information.

How often do I get my YouTube money and royalty reports?

Claims reports will be provided once Audiam receives them from YouTube

What information is in the royalty reports?

Each month, YouTube reports how much each song made. Audiam bundles the data by month.

On your YouTube Royalty Reports page, you'll see at first just the month and a total for all the songs that earned money that month. Click the month and it takes you to a page that lists every song and how much that song made that month.

You can also click the song name and see every single video that song appeared on, how much it earned from that specific video, how many times it earned during the month, and you'll have a link directly to the video itself! (Coming soon.)

How are the monthly YouTube Royalty Reports different from the weekly video Claims Reports I can view in my Audiam account?

  • Weekly Claim reports can be viewed here.
Weekly Claims Reports are a list of what YouTube videos have been found using your music. YouTube does not provide any information about how much money these videos may have generated.
  • Monthly YouTube Royaty Reports can be viewed here.
Monthly YouTube Royaty Reports include revenue by song, country and day. Soon, they will list each video and how many times the video was viewed and on what day. These official YouTube Royalty Reports reflect actual views and earnings.

How do I know I got paid?

You'll see a payment listed on the Payments page. NOTE: It may take time for the money to reach you, please be patient.

If I see a YouTube Royalty Report, but there's nothing listed on my Payments page, does that mean I didn't get paid yet?

Yes. Some reasons why you might not have been paid:

  • You made less than U.S. $5 that month (that's the minimum for a payment).
  • You never filled out your Bank Info page.
  • You never filled out your Tax Info page.
  • You never filled out your Edit Profile page.
  • You're not in the U.S. or Canada (or your bank isn't).
  • You gave us everything we need, but after that cycle's cut-off date.
  • You've violated our Terms.

Don't worry, your money isn't going anywhere it's yours and you'll get it, guaranteed.

What's the "cutoff" and when is it?

We need you to complete your Profile page, your Bank Info page and your Tax Info page. Please fill these out as quickly as possible! Each payment cycle, we'll have a final day you can enter the information. If you fill out those forms afterwards, you'll have to wait for the next payment cycle.

Once you enter your information, you don't need to enter it again, and you will be automatically included in the next payment cycle.

Cut-off days vary by payment cycle.

We'll notify all potential payees by email what the cut-off is for each payment cycle.

What happens if I'm not paid this month?

Your money stays in your account.

  • If you were missing information, supply it before the next cut-off and you'll get paid in the next payment cycle.
  • If you didn't make at least U.S. $5, your money remains in your account until the next payment cycle where your total rises to at least $5.

As soon as you get us the required banking, address and tax information we need and accumulate more than U.S. $5, you'll get a payment on the next payment cycle.

How does rounding work?

Audiam gets very detailed reports from YouTube, and we show all that detail to you. That means payments down to the 1/100,000th of a penny!

We only round to the payment cycle. That is, all digits are preserved right up to the point of summing your entire royalty report. Only then is the grand total rounded to the nearest penny (half-cents round up, under half-cents round down).

How do I get my money?

  • Audiam customers inside the U.S. or Canadian will receive their money via direct deposit into their bank accounts. NOTE: You must complete your Profile and your Bank Info and Tax Info pages or we cannot pay you.
  • Audiam customers outside of the U.S. and Canada will receive their money via PayPal. NOTE: Audiam will only send money to the email address of your Audiam account.

I received a payment from MINT for my YouTube royalties, who is that?

MINT is a third party company that Audiam has hired to administer money to you.

Am I being charged any fees for receiving my Audiam payments?

  • Bank Service fees may be deducted. Paypal is charging a service fee. This service fee is deducted from the amount you requested. IMPORTANT NOTE: Audiam does not receive any portion of that fee. NOTE: If Audiam is charged a fee due to rejected or failed payment, we'll pass those fees on to you.

Will my royalty payments be deposited in U.S. Dollars?

  • You registered with us a U.S. bank account: YouTube pays Audiam in U.S. dollars, and you will be paid in U.S. dollars.
  • You registered with us a Canadian bank account: YouTube pays Audiam in U.S. dollars, and you will be paid in Canadian dollars (we'll handle the exchange). You'll see the exchange rate for each month on your Payments page.
  • You don't have a U.S. or Canadian bank account registered with us: YouTube pays Audiam in U.S. dollars, and Audiam will pay you via PayPal. PayPal will follow their own exchange policy.

What happens to my money if I have not completed enough information to get paid?

Audiam will hold onto your money until you provide the required information to pay you and then pay you what you are owed.

If I haven't provided all the information needed to get paid before the next payment cycle, what happens?

Audiam must have ALL of the required information BEFORE the royalty payment date or you won't get paid. Instead, your payment will come in the following payment cycle, provided you qualify (i.e. you need to have earned at least a total of U.S. $5).

If I have not provided all the information needed to get paid can I still see my YouTube Royalty Reports?

Yes!

How long will I have to wait for my money?

You should receive your money 7 to 14 business days after it is paid out. Time varies based on your own bank policies and other factors.

Why am I giving you tax information?

We're required by law to collect the information and send out year-end tax forms.

Was any tax withheld from my payment?

No.

I can't fill out my tax information.

Your earnings will be held until we get this information. Reach out to your government for instructions on obtaining either a Social Security Number (in the U.S.), a Social Insurance Number (in Canada) or a business/corporation tax identification number (any country).

My contact, bank or tax information changed, what do I do?
